The director and writer known for clever dialogue, poignance and occasional belly-laugh sight gags in "Breakfast at Tiffany's," the "Pink Panther" farces and scores by Henry Mancini, is dead at age 88.
He had been married to Julie Andrews since 1969.
He said, "I've had a hell of a life, and can't do much better. So this is gravy."
