MERLE HAGGARD

I love this song!!!

MR. HAGGARD, SPOKEN:

WELL, A FRIEND OF MINE NAMED STEVE GOODMAN WROTE THAT SONG AND HE TOLD ME IT WAS THE PERFECT COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG. I WROTE HIM BACK A LETTER AND I TOLD HIM IT WAS NOT THE PERFECT COUNTRY& WESTERN SONG BECAUSE HE HADN'T SAID ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT MAMA,OR TRAINS, OR TRUCKS, OR PRISON, OR GETTIN' DRUNK. WELL HE SAT DOWN AND WROTE ANOTHER VERSE TO THE SONG AND HE SENT IT TO ME, AND AFTER READING IT, I REALIZED THAT MY FRIEND HAD WRITTEN THE PERFECT COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG. AND I FELT OBLIGED TO INCLUDE IT ON THIS ALBUM. THE LAST VERSE GOES LIKE THIS HERE:

WELL, I WAS DRUNK THE DAY MY MOM GOT OUT OF PRISON AND I WENT TO PICK HER UP IN THE RAIN BUT BEFORE I COULD GET TO THE STATION IN MY PICKUP TRUCK SHE GOT RUNNED OVER BY A DAMNED OLD TRAIN

AND I'LL HANG AROUND AS LONG AS YOU WILL LET ME AND I NEVER MINDED STANDIN' IN THE RAIN NO, A' YOU DON'T HAVE TO CALL ME DARLIN', DARLIN' YOU NEVER EVEN CALL ME WELL I WONDER WHY YOU DON'T CALL ME NAME.
WHY DON'T YOU EVER CALL ME BY MY NAME

IPANEMA

"Tall and tan and young and lovely." Oh, that girl from Ipanema! :) I can see her walking along the beach. I see a bathing suit, high heels and cat-eye sunglasses with a very large hat. Her nails are painted red and she is carrying a book ... something in French I think. (sigh) Making her way over to a cabana. To reapply tanning lotion, which has a faint scent of coconuts. Where is Ipanema? I must find out and move there. I will pack up my things in a jiffy ... after all I really only need a bathing suit, sunglasses and a hat. Oh yeah, and that coconut tanning lotion! I wonder if its edible? Ohhh...

HERBAL HEAT PACK...oohhhhhh

I have been thinking of making a herbal heat pack for quite sometime now. On a trip to the coast about 4 and a half years ago-that is how long I have been putting this off :) Cody and I wandered into a little shop is SLO (San Luis Obispo). The quaint store greeted us with an aroma of lavender and rosemary. A large bath tub full of rocks and goldfish sat in front of the large bay window. The store keeper greeted us and insisted we looked weary and literally made us rest on her overstuffed couch in the middle of her shop. We put up a great fight...honest :) She then gave us two neck pillows filled with organic rice...naturally...and lavender. The back of our necks, wrists and temples were rubbed with a liquid stress reliever. We were instructed to close our eyes and relax. It was a very nice experience. At that moment I decided "I could make one of these" but as you are all well aware of... :)

SCARFS!!!

I've taking up knitting. I see myself already - the ripe old age of 24, knitting in a rocking chair with a cat around my feet! :) I always like looking at all the "home spun" wools in fabric stores. Their beautiful threads, woven in a pasta-like-mess...as if their braids were just taken out to dry in the breeze. I CANNOT think of very many sun-less winters when I actually need a scarf. But the ambiance of a homemade scarf appeals to me. The long tails of a scarf thrown around my neck a few times, like an old cat too lazy to fight back. That is my ideal picture of winter for the moment...
